REPLACING MOTHER-OF-PEARL DOTS
PAGE 3.
Replacing the 'Standard' size 6mm (1/4") MOP dots.
Gently, drop some superglue
into the hole.
Carefully, lay the new
dot into the top of the hole.
Gently, push the dot
in to place, which should be just proud of the
fingerboard.
Using a stick of some sort makes it a lot easier to level up.
The dot is now in place.
When all the dots are in place,
then...
Very Gently, sand over the dots so they are level with the fingerboard.
80 grit is needed as any sandpaper of a lighter
grade will tend to 'bounce' over the surface
of the pearl and 'round it over' at this stage rather than leveling it.
( Obviously, if only a single dot is being
replaced, sanding can be done after that.)
