REPLACING MOTHER-OF-PEARL DOTS
PAGE 2.
Replacing the 'Standard' size 6mm (1/4") MOP dots.
As you can see I'm actually replacing
5 dots, which should show up better than the old ones.
We're now at the stage where : -
1. The MOP has been removed.
2. The holes
have been cleaned up but is still a little undersize.
Previously, using the 5
mm bit would have given a rough 'centre' to
the hole.
Using a small 1.5mm or 2mm
bit, drill a tiny hole in the middle.
This will help centre the 6mm bit that will be used
next.
This is the final
stage of re-drilling the hole to the right size.
The dot to be put in is about 1.5mm thick, so the vertical side wall of the hole
must be about the same or slightly less.
If it is more, a packing piece will have to be used to raise the pearl piece to
the
level of the fingerboard - and you want to try and avoid having to do that ;0)
The hole drilled, a new piece of Mother-of-Pearl alongside ready to be put in place.
