Making a Shaped Guitar Case

Part 1 - Making The 'Formers'

Page 4

The nearly completed Inside former. It's had a couple of coats of PVA to seal it, and has now been painted a Matt Black
Underneath there are 3/4" supports which deliberately 'raise' the Former above a Base of some sort.
( Please excuse the blotchy pictures - Dust in the atmosphere.)

It's now time to wrap the edge of the Former with some sort of Metal..... In this case I've used a 3" (75mm) x X 0.5mm mild steel sheet that has been sprayed. It is very flexible and can be wrapped around the outside of the Former quite easily with a 'wedge' and a 'Cam clamp' here and there.
It's easiest to flip the Former over before this is attempted - as above.

The 0.5 mm mild steel can be glued fairly easily to the chipboard Former with some form of 'Contact Adhesive'.
With the careful use of a few blocks and the ever-present Cam Clamps, the Metal can be gently bent around the former and glued quite successfully.

You can now see how handy the holes in the Former have now become..... The Clamps work really well for this task as they will for the Case itself - hopefully.

Carrying on up the 'neck' of the Former.

This is the Inside Former finished..... ready to make a set of case ribs.

The next Stage is to make the Outside Former.....
I'll continue this as soon as I can on Page 5.
