Cutting and Preparing the Neck Blank

Cutting

Mark out a piece of Mahogany for the Neck Blank..... 4 Standard blanks can be got out of the 4" x 3".
Here above the parts have been laid back together after cutting.

 

Viewing a Standard Neck Blank from 2 angles.

 

A Bandsaw is the best tool to for cutting using a 1/4" blade.
( No power to the Bandsaw when the picture was taken.)

 

A Bandsaw is capable of very accurate cutting if 'set up' correctly.
 ( No power to the Bandsaw when the picture was taken.)

 

The Neck Blanks after cutting. 
These are all the pieces cut from the blank. Even the off-cuts are very useful.

 

The 4 blanks off the saw. The 3 behind are for longer headstocks..... like an Angel
the one at the front is for a more standard type headstock.

The Next Stage..... on Page 2 is to level both the Neckface that the Truss Rod slot will be cut in and the fingerboard will be glued to and also the Headface that the Ebony headstock veneer will be glued to......
