Cutting Mother-of-Pearl
All you need.....
Cutting board, Clamp, Fretsaw
with Blade and a piece of Pearl.
Don't forget a suitable Dust
Mask.
When cutting,
the Pearl must be supported both
sides of the blade.....
.....or it will fracture or break.
This commonly happens anyway..... it's all part of
the process of
Cutting by Hand.
All types of shell are very brittle and must
be treated with great care.
Remember about the Dust
- which will get everywhere.
Wear a
suitable Mask.

shows the Saw Blade just skimming
the outside of the
line of
the shape required. This is the first
stage of creating the shape.
